Hey you still working on memorizing James?
We’re on week 12. You know the gig.
Enter the verses you’re going to be working on in the Comments section and work on them for the next 2 weeks.
How’s it going? Don’t give up. We’re doing this through May. It will be worth it! Trust me.
If you’re new to the blog and want to join in, just start right now. We love God’s word and want to hide it in our hearts.
Welcome!

Jo from Lombard-James 2:4-7 (NIV)
“have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? Are they not the ones who are blaspheming the noble name of him to whom you belong?”
Mary from MP
James 5
13 is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful, let him sing praise.
14 is anyone among you sick? Let him call for th elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of The Lord.
15 and the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and The Lord will raise him up.
16 therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rais, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.
18 then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.
James 5:7&8 NIV Study Bible
7. Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield it’s valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains.
8. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.
Good has been good to me this week the same way he has been good to me every other week. I get to stay home with my kids. I get to go to church, and I have an amazing family. Truly blessed!
James 5 (NLT)
1Look here, you rich people, weep and groan with anguish because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you.
2 Your wealth is rotting away, and your fine clothes are moth-eaten rags.
3 Your gold and silver have become worthless. The very wealth you were counting on will eat away your flesh in hell. This treasure you have accumulated will stand as evidence against you on the day of judgment.
4 For listen! Hear the cries of the field workers whom you have cheated of their pay. The wages you held back cry out against you. The cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty.
5 You have spent your years on earth in luxury, satisfying your every whim. Now your hearts are nice and fat, ready for the slaughter.
6 You have condemned and killed good people who had no power to defend themselves against you.
Listening to some of John MacArthur’s messages about the book of James has enriched my appreciation and application as I am memorizing the book. You can find the messages by searching on his website, gty.org, or by downloading a smart phone app, and clicking the “more” option on the bottom right, then search, check the box for the code. The codes begin as follows:
John MacArthur codes:
James 1. 59-1 to 59-11
James 2. 59-12 to 59-16
James 3. 59-17 to 59-21.
James 4. 59-22 to 59-28
James 5. 59-29 to 59-34.
James 4:1-10 ESV
What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
James 3: 1-6 — Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. 2 For dwe all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, ehe is a perfect man, fable also to bridle his whole body. 3 If we put gbits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. 4 Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. 5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet hit boasts of great things.
How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! 6 And ithe tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, jstaining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life,1 and set on fire by hell.2
Jen T from Palatine, James 2:12-13 ESV
So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty. For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgement.
James 1:18 Know this my beloved brothers; let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger, for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
James 4:6-11
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble,” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.
Woops I posted this on your other post from March 1st.

Susan from Morton Grove:
James 1: 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
Gayle from AH James 4:11-17
Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor? Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit” — yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
I like the valuable information you provide on your articles. I will bookmark your blog and check once more here regularly. I’m slightly sure I will learn lots of new stuff right here! Best of luck for the following!
