After I gave a talk recently a girl came up to me and asked me to pray for her.

Her problem, it turns out is that she feels stuck.

Stuck in her job.

Stuck in her singleness.

Stuck in her town.

Stuck in her life.

Do you ever feel that way?

I talked to her about surrender. I talked to her about counting her blessings. I talked to her about gratitude and joy.

But it was only after I left that I realized that there was one question I should have asked but did not.

“What is it that you really want?”

The problem with too many of us is that when we’re stuck we never stop long enough to ask ourselves what we really want.

Pretty soon we fall into a downward spiral of self pity and despair.

We lose momentum and become negative and introspective.

Instead, we need to refocus on the desired outcome we’re looking for.

Is it a new job that will be the solution?

Is it a short weekend away?

Is it marriage you’re looking for?

Is it holiness or a closer walk with Jesus?

If you’re not sure what it is you want, ask God to show you what the true desire of your heart really is. You might be surprised by His answer.

You can’t get to where you’re going if you don’t have a clear destination in mind.

As you pinpoint what it is you’re looking for, you’ll find yourself one step closer to being unstuck.
